Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has launched its Sustainability Report 2024/25, detailing the sustainability performance and achievements of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for the fiscal year ending 31 March 2025.
The report highlights progress under AAHK’s Ascend sustainability strategy, which is structured around 24 strategic goals across four key pillars: Environmental Excellence, Operational Excellence, Thriving Economies and Societies, and Thriving People.
Key highlights from the Report:
Environmental Excellence
- AAHK supported the establishment of the North Lantau Marine Park, Hong Kong’s largest marine park covering 2,400 hectares, safeguarding habitats for Chinese White Dolphins and other marine life.
- Completed a Renewable Diesel (RD) Pilot Project lasting one year, with a further eight business partners initiating or planning similar initiatives using RD.
- Concluded the first HKIA Carbon Capacity Building Programme, engaging over 450 airport community members over three years.
- AAHK implemented advanced building analytics technology for the air handling units at Terminal 1, achieving an estimated 3.5% reduction in yearly energy consumption.
Operational Excellence
- AAHK launched the world’s first Smartphone Express Bag Drop Service, allowing passengers to check-in using their smartphones before heading to HKIA and complete self-bag drop at the airport in under one minute.
- Rolled out a smart security screening system, enabling passengers to keep electronic devices and liquids in their carry-on bags, enhancing convenience and efficiency.
Thriving Economies and Societies
- Successfully commissioned the Three-Runway System with all three runways operating simultaneously, reinforcing HKIA’s role as a global aviation hub.
- A dividend of HK$1,300 million payable to the Hong Kong SAR Government was declared, marking the first dividend payment since 2014/15.
- Introduced SKYTOPIA, a new brand for HKIA’s expanded Airport City, leveraging HKIA’s strategic location.
- Expanded the city terminal network to 30 locations across the Greater Bay Area (GBA), improving connectivity and travel convenience.
- Advanced development of the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park commenced, with full operations expected by 2027.
Thriving People
- AAHK began recruiting candidates for a two-year Information Technology Trainee Programme to support HKIA’s digital transformation.
- Delivered over 85,000 hours of training, including sessions led by senior management and guest speakers to foster continuous learning among staff.
