Case Study
Scope 3 - Under The Pledge
Launched in March 2022 in partnership with the Business Environment Council, the HKIA Carbon Capacity Building Programme (CCBP) is a tailored programme designed to develop the necessary skills and awareness required across the airport community to make progress towards decarbonisation. In fact, emissions from AAHK’s business partners account for over 40% of the emissions covered by the HKIA Net Zero 2050 Pledge.
Even though pledged business partners are responsible for developing their own carbon management plans and decarbonisation strategies, AAHK offers extensive support via the HKIA Business Partners Carbon Support Programme, which includes funding, collaborative forums, technology pilots and capacity building to achieve our shared goal of reducing carbon emissions.
Under the CCBP, five free events are organised annually for pledged business partners on various topics including carbon management and auditing training, low-carbon trends and solutions, energy efficiency, value chain management, global climate agendas, and more. The programme has also provided business partners with specific training on bespoke tools developed by AAHK, such as a carbon management planning template and a tailor-made Target Trajectory Tool. This tool assists business partners in developing their own target trajectories based on individual carbon footprint and planned initiatives using common emission factor assumptions and calculation methodologies to ensure consistency.
The first phase of the CCBP was completed in early 2025 and will be renewed for another three years. AAHK aspires to keep improving on the CCBP as a platform for business partners to continue learning and keeping up to date with global trends in carbon management and climate change related topics.
