Business Partner Profile

HAS is committed to driving sustainable development. As part of the aviation logistics industry, it understands that low-carbon transport is a crucial measure to address climate change. It is gradually replacing ground support equipment and vehicles to improve fuel efficiency and is considering switching to clean energy options to decarbonise. Meanwhile, it will continue to manage and review resource utilisation and waste disposal to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment.

While protecting the environment, the organisation is also concerned about social issues, such as diversity and inclusion, and supporting the community. For example, it arranges talent development programmes and recognises their outstanding contributions to retain valuable human resources, which is also important in ensuring the sustainability of the company.

Carbon Emission Reduction Measures and Strategies

  • We are committed to actively monitoring and reviewing our fuel usage while taking steps to decarbonise our fleet. We have developed a long-term fleet electrification plan to electrify our fleet by phase.
  • Electrified 100% of our private cars operating in the airport-restricted area in 2023.
  • Phasing out diesel-powered equipment, including conveyor belts, low deck loaders, and passenger steps.
  • For equipment without an electric option available in the market yet, we actively review new options and try to use the most fuel-efficient routing possible to minimise fuel use.
  • Conducted an energy audit in 2022 to identify energy hotspots.

Case Study: Decarbonising Our Fleet

As a company with a large fleet, fuel consumption is responsible for the majority of our greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 87% of our total emissions. We are committed to actively monitoring and reviewing our fuel usage and taking steps to decarbonise our fleet in line with our sustainability targets. To achieve this goal, we have developed a long-term fleet electrification plan, with the aim to electrify our fleet by phase.

By the end of 2023, we had replaced all private vehicles that operate at the airside with electric models and phased out 95 pieces of diesel-powered equipment, including conveyor belts, low deck loaders, and passenger steps. This initiative is expected to save almost 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

For equipment without an electric option currently available on the market, we actively review options every quarter and utilise the most fuel-efficient routing possible to minimise fuel use. We recognise that the transition to electric vehicles and equipment will take time, but we are committed to making progress towards our goal. Moving forward, we will continue to decarbonise our fleet through the implementation of the GSE and Vehicle Replacement Programme. This will modernise our fleet with more fuel-efficient or electric vehicles. We are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and are proud to be taking steps towards a more sustainable future.

Hong Kong Airport Services Limited is committed to operating our business sustainably and responsibly with the goal of reaching Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050. To achieve our decarbonisation targets, we have developed a long-term plan to electrify our fleet of vehicles and ground support equipment. In addition to transitioning our cars to electric vehicles, we are also exploring alternative fuel and cleaner energy options for our heavy-duty vehicles. Working alongside the airport community, we are dedicated to becoming a sustainable ground handler for airlines, continuously seeking low-carbon solutions while maintaining high-quality services.
